Who we are

Stephen Wright and Naomi Szanto are licensed mental health counselors and co-founders of Pivot Counseling & Performance. We both earned our Master’s degrees in Mental Health Counseling and Behavioral Medicine from Boston University School of Medicine in 2021, where our shared passion for integrative, trauma-informed care took root.

Stephen brings years of experience supporting clients through trauma recovery, substance misuse, identity exploration, and life transitions, helping individuals reconnect with meaning and move toward personal growth. Naomi has specialized expertise in treating eating disorders across all levels of care, with a strong foundation in mind-body healing and performance psychology.

Together, we provide collaborative, client-centered care for those navigating both psychological and physical challenges. At Pivot, we believe in meeting people at life’s turning points—with compassion, curiosity, and a commitment to what matters most.

Let Us Introduce Ourselves

Stephen IS currently accepting both insurance and private-pay clients

I began working in the mental health field in 2018 as a mental health worker on a pediatric and adolescent inpatient psychiatric unit, and have since worked with clients of all ages and backgrounds in a number of settings in the field. I have seen firsthand that individual context matters, that resilience can be developed, and that there are many paths to a fulfilling life. My goal as a therapist is to honor each person’s individual strengths, provide insight and skills to help unlock resilience, and guide each person toward the meaningful life they seek.

I utilize evidence-based practices such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and IFS-oriented parts work to treat people experiencing problems such as anxiety, depression, trauma, life transitions, substance misuse, and general stuckness.

Additionally, I am a lifelong athlete with a passion for helping athletes and other high performers develop the mental skills they need to be at their best. In this role, I work with each individual to develop their own mental skills training plan according to their needs and goals.

In the role of both generalist and eating disorder specialist, my work with clients is direct, but infused with a generous dose of humor, empathy, and compassion. I believe in creating a safe space where clients can express their zone, and my deepest hope is that clients can walk away from each session having gained more insight and a new goal to work towards. My natural energy is always present in session; I have a particular interest in helping young adults get unstuck and move toward newness, be it within the realm of their emotional wellbeing or in a performance-related setting.

My areas of professional focus include disordered eating patterns, depression, anxiety, trauma, life transition, self-esteem, and navigating medical conditions. I utilize eclectic therapeutic approaches, incorporating evidence-based practices such as CBT, CPT, MI, and person-centered modalities, creating an individualized plan each client's unique needs.
